How Do I Import My Blogger/blogspot.com Blog into WordPress? Print

  • 1

Converting to WordPress from Blogger is a fairly straight-forward process, as WP has a built-in Blogger importer.

If you'd like to import your blogspot.com account to a WordPress install here at Black Chicken Host, you can either open a support ticket from the Customer Portal and give us your Blogger login credentials and the name of the blog you wish to import, or you can follow these instructions:

  1. Install WordPress on your Black Chicken Host account, or ask us to install it for you.
  2. In the WordPress administrative Dashboard, click on Tools -> Import.
  3. On the next screen, click on Blogger, then click Install Now. You'll see the install process occuring.
  4. Click on "Activate Plugin and Run Importer."
  5. Click "Authorize."
  6. On the next page, click "Grant Access."
  7. The following page will let you know if your request was successful or if it failed. If successful, click the "Import" button beside the Blogger blog you want to bring over. Depending on the number of entries you are importing, the import process can take a few seconds to several minutes. You may need to click "Continue" a few times if the process pauses.
  8. Click "Set Authors" and select the WordPress author profile you want to use as the author for the imported Blogger entries. Your blog is now imported! However, there are a few other steps we should perform for your readers' sakes.
  9. Navigate to Blogger and sign in to your account.
  10. Click "Settings" and then click "Other" in the left sidebar. Depending upon which version of the Blogger interface you're using, the next step may be under Settings, Redirection.
  11. Click "Add" beside "Post Feed Redirect URL" and enter the address of your WordPress blog RSS feed. This will ensure that readers who subscribe to your blog using RSS continue to receive updates uninterrupted.
  12. Although the WordPress import tool does not collect tags for your Blogger posts, you can quickly re-tag and categorize your entries once they are imported to WordPress using the mass tag editor tool available from the WordPress administrative interface.
  13. That's it!
